Wallhangings and vintage from Dancers Road www.dancersroad.wordpress.com

Those of you who have visited my Etsy shop before, know that wall hangings are one of my favourite vintage items. I love the colour combinations these old wall hangings have and I love the effect they have on any interior; they always seem to brighten up a place and make it more warm and a home. I’m always very excited when I find new ones and usually show them immediately here on the blog before I upload them in the shop. Follow me on bloglovin if you would like to be the first to see what’s new ;-].

These lovely vintage wall hangings will soon be in the Dancers Road shop! Don’t hesitate to contact me for pre-reservations or more information, I’ll be happy to help!

LOVE IS STRANGE (the film)

Items for the eclectic home collected by Dancers Road www.dancersroad.wordpress.com

As much as I like the over the top, fully bohemian, fully retro or fully ethnic interior I usually get even more inspired by an interior that has a mix of styles. I love it when rooms are not perfect, not tidy and filled with items that don’t match perfectly. And I love it when rooms look as if they are lived in (even thought these rooms are decors ;-]), with influences from different styles. That’s probably why I instantly fell in love with the eclectic interiors from the movie: Love is Strange.

It is a beautiful movie about Ben and George who get married at the beginning of the film, George is soon fired from his teaching post, forcing them to stay with friends separately while they sell their place and look for cheaper housing. It’s a beautiful, sad and yet funny movie and it also has great decors as you can see in these pictures! I love all the plans, books and personal objects in these interiors but above all; I love the artworks and paintings hanging around. They are so lovely and not impossible to find on flee markets and in thrift shops. I recently came across one very pretty flower painting like the one in the first picture below and it is so much fun to search for items like this! For those of you who rather shop online or don’t have the patience or the time to go thriftshopping I found some items in the style of Love is Strange on Etsy as you can see above.

The set decoration of Love is Strange was done by Kendall Anderson. Which movie interiors do you find inspiring?

Products: Vintage Oil painting with Flower from: Labelfrance. African Mask from Africadirect. Noguchi style glass table from: Beakerloo. Rattan cube table from: Mkmack. Portrait of woman from: AntiqueARTGarden. Landscape Painting from: ModernistBerlin. Two golden table lamps from: Overstock. Two blue chairs from TheGalwayGirrl.

WHAT FRIDA WORE

Frida Kahlo

This week the Guardian came with the very exciting news that it’s now possible to see what Frida Kahlo wore during her life. After Frida Kahlo died in 1954, her husband Diego Rivera shut her belongings in a bathroom at their Mexico City home, the Blue House – then demanded it be locked until 15 years after his death. In fact, the room wasn’t opened until 2004, when Ishiuchi Miyako photographed its intimate contents. Here are the artists’ beloved belongings, from sunglasses to handpainted corsets. The photographs made by Miyako are now being exhibited from the 15th of may till the 12th of july at Michael Hoppen Gallery in London. Here are a few examples, more photographs can be found here .

Frida Kahlo sunglasses

Kahlo’s right leg was thinner than her left after childhood polio – and it was later fractured in 11 places when she had a horrific bus accident in her 20s. As a result, she wore long, traditional Tehuana dresses that concealed her lower body (source: the Guardian).

LATEST VINTAGE FINDINGS #2

Vintage from DancersRoad

When I go treasure hunting I never look for something in particular. Even though I’m always hoping to find west Germany vases, Mid Century planters, knitted pillows and wallhangings, every quest is again a surprise and that’s part of the fun. This homemade framed drawing of exotic birds I could have never imagined findingand it’s so much fun to find something unique like this. I love the bright colours on the old wallpaper. And it actually got me think of making one myself because it looks like a very nice project. Thats’s what I like so much about thriftshopping; I do not only come back with beautiful things from the past, I also get inspired to create things in the present.

The drawing will be availeble in the shop soon!
